Match Report - Spalding United v Alvechurch

Spalding United15 Feb - 20:00

Three goals and a clean sheet for the ruthless Tulips!

Spalding United produced a dominant display to see off Alvechurch with a convincing three goal victory.

The Tulips started brightly and enjoyed the lion’s share of early possession.

A slick move after ten minutes carved the visitors open, but Jack Roberts drove a cut-back just over the bar.

Moments later, Spalding should have led when Olopade’s teasing cross was poked goalwards by Cybulski, only for Evans to pull off a stunning one handed save.

After a flurry of home chances, Alvechurch threatened on the break, but Johnson’s last ditch challenge diverted the ball onto the outside of the post.

The deadlock was finally broken on 35 minutes when neat play released Cybulski, who cleverly flicked the ball into the path of Sani to poke home past Evans. Spalding went in at the break ruing missed opportunities but holding a deserved lead.

HT: 1-0

The hosts flew out of the blocks after the restart. On 49 minutes, Bendle’s quick thinking free kick sent Ceesay clear and he rounded the keeper before calmly slotting into an empty net.

Five minutes later it was three. Liam Moore delivered an inch perfect cross and Cybulski steered a superb header beyond the helpless Evans.

From there the tempo dropped as Spalding managed the contest well, keeping possession and limiting Alvechurch to very few chances. A number of changes followed, with debutants Taroni, Pugh and Akambi all introduced to valuable minutes as the Tulips comfortably saw out a convincing win.
