Match Report: Brackley Town (H)

Spalding United

Tulips see out exciting draw.

The Tulips endured an agonising 2-2 draw against Brackley Town on Tuesday; the Northamptonshire side came from two goals down to clinch a singular point in an exciting match of football.

Spalding began on the front foot, with Barton posing problems on the right side. His early cut back found Cybulski who tried to get his shot away but fouled his marker in the process.

Bart Cybulski had his shirt pulled back on two occasions with one inside the penalty area, but the referee decided on no penalty which triggered an eruption amongst the crowd.

As play went on, Brackley began to get a foothold in the game, shown through a tame effort from Finn Robert that was comfortably collected by Crook.

However, Spalding looked threatening on the counter, with Joseph Nyahwema having a shot at goal that sailed over the crossbar.

Then, on 32 minutes, Spalding struck first through Cybulski who was picked out by Dan Jarvis. The star-striker touched the ball down and fired the ball into the bottom right corner for 1-0.

As we looked for a second before half-time, Sembie-Ferris played a lovely searching ball into Cybulski who strayed just offside in the process.

A spirited first-half performance from the Tulips saw us take the valuable goal advantage into the break.

Just seconds after the second half got underway, Jarvis found himself in front of goal, but his shot blazed over the bar.

In a relentless period of attack from the Tulips, Dan Barton warmed the palms of Rhone as Spalding aimed to find another goal...

...Then, in the 57th minute, Joseph Nyahwema opened his account for the season as he fired a bullet past an outstretched Rhone into the top-left corner for 2-0!

In response to falling two goals behind, the visitors brought on DJ Sturridge for Finn Robert. Just a few touches after coming on, the substitute gave Brackley a lifeline as he rolled the ball past Crook.

In the 67th minute, Sturridge danced his way into the 18-yard area and went down easily which resulted in a questionable penalty decision from the referee. He converted from the penalty spot, sending Crook the wrong way and equalising for the visitors.

A triple change to the front-line followed as Fowkes, Abbey and Vaughan all came on in search of a late winner.

However, the hopeful substitutions were ineffective as chance after chance was squandered by the Tulips attack.

Eventually, the full-time whistle blew, and Spalding finished the game with only one point, despite leading the game by 2 goals to nil up until the hour mark.
