Spalding cruise into the fourth qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup with a triumphant 4-0 victory over Bury Town. Four goals from four different players saw the likes of Bart Cybulski and Dan Jarvis get their names on the scoresheet as the Tulips secured their place in the next round against Alvechurch.
The Tulips started on the strong foot with a flock of early penalty appeals hurled at the referee as Cybulski was brought down inside the 18-yard box, but the referee waved away any claims.
Then, in just the 3rd minute, a long throw found Bart Cybulski lurking at the back post, who ruthlessly fired the ball past the outstretched keeper to give Spalding the lead.
Dan Jarvis went close just minutes later as Kelly picked the attacking midfielder out, but his shot was firmly blocked by the Blues defence.
Jarvis eventually doubled the Tulips’ advantage in the 20th minute as he unleashed a low driven effort that fortunately slipped beneath the keeper.
Dan Barton continued to threaten down the right flank as he whipped in a quality cross to Cybulski whose shot was steered just wide of the upright.
Then, by the 38th minute, the Tulips found another goal through Barton who produced a sublime chip to punish Beckwith who was caught in no man's land.
Throughout the first half, Spalding were dominant, winning second balls and proving clinical in front of goal.
For the first 10 minutes of the second half, Bury looked a lot more composed on the ball and started to create more chances with their possession.
On the hour mark, Sembie-Ferris left the field holding his hamstring and was replaced by Oli Rose, followed by Dan Barton who was replaced by Zaid Betteka.
A shot from distance by Mayhew ricocheted behind for a corner, which was subsequently wasted as Bury looked to get a foothold in the game; but every shot taken at Spalding’s goal was superbly saved by Peter Crook.
In the 82nd minute, the final blow was dealt by Ben Fowkes as he capitalised on a loose ball stemming from an impressive long-range effort from Dan Jarvis that was parried by the keeper.
The final whistle was sounded and the crowd burst into elation as the Tulips are now one step away from reaching the First Round Proper. Come on You Tulips!
