MATCH REPORT: Worksop (H)

Spalding United

Jimmy Dean’s side crafted an impressive performance against Worksop Town on Saturday afternoon to bounce back from unfortunate recent results. Hat-trick hero Bart Cybulski was the centre of attention in an emphatic 3-1 victory over the Tigers.

Inside the first 10 minutes, the Tulips controlled possession winning early individual battles and staying composed with the ball.

Cybulski went close to breaking the deadlock following a free kick that was floated into the 6-yard area, but the Worksop keeper did well to calmly collect the ball.

Then, in the 26th minute, Bendle struck a shot into a sea of bodies with the ball falling to Cybulski who coolly rolled the ball past Dearnley for 1-0.

10 minutes later the Tulips found themselves 2-0 in front, succeeding a dazzling run from Ben Fowkes who fired the ball to Cybulski who steered the ball into the back of the net.

Minutes before half time, Worksop almost halved the deficit as Whitman-Brown attempted to curl his effort round Crook, but his shot was wayward.

A pristine first-half performance from Spalding saw them cruise into the break 2-0 up, with very few chances materialising for the visitors.

The Tigers came out of the half looking a lot more motivated as they tried to reverse the scoreline. Despite the attempts to get a foothold in the game, the Tulips maintained their defensive solidity.

Just before the hour mark, Bart Cybulski proved a threat once more as Fowkes drove along the byline and fizzed a ball into the striker who netted his third of the afternoon.

Then, on 66 minutes, Worksop found the back of the net through Redford who unleashed an impressive strike into the top right corner of the goal for 3-1.

Following the setback, a double change was made for Spalding, with Straughan-Brown replacing Bendle and Zaid Betteka coming on for his home debut.

The technical winger impressed, winning a handful of fouls as a result of quick footwork and almost registering an assist after laying the ball off to Straughan-Brown whose low shot was tipped round the post by the keeper.

The Tulips subsequently saw out the victory in what is our first home win in the National League North.
