PREVIEW: Southport (A)

Spalding United

Read our latest preview ahead of Southport.

The tulips return to home action this Saturday (5th September) as they face Southport FC at the Sir Halley Stewart. The Merseyside-based club currently sit 21st in the league table on 5 points after a flawed start to the season.

Their most recent result was a 1-0 defeat to Hereford FC following a second-half penalty from Aaron Skinner, with Southport’s Harry Perritt being shown a straight red card.

The Port made a series of signings over the summer with the Morecambe duo of Jameson and Ogwuru joining the ranks and Solomon joining from Tranmere Rovers.

These signings fit perfectly into a 4-2-3-1 formation with Ogwuru being the lone striker and Solomon slotting into the midfield. This outlook offers a balanced structure and flexibility in attack which could prove difficult for the Tulips defence.

Following Monday’s 1-1 draw against South Shields, Jimmy Dean said he was ‘buzzing’ with the performance and assured the fans that ‘we can be a decent side at this level’.

We look forward to seeing you back at home this Saturday, Come on You Tulips!
