Akanbi Becomes a Tulip
Spalding United are delighted to confirm the permanent signing of forward Saleem Akanbi from Bishop’s Stortford.
The 20 year old attacker arrives at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field with a strong pedigree, having progressed through the academy system at Cambridge United F.C. from the age of eight before signing his first professional contract with his hometown club.
Akanbi’s development at Cambridge saw him gain valuable senior experience out on loan, featuring for Aveley F.C., Concord Rangers F.C. and later St Neots Town F.C., continuing his progression into the senior game.
More recently, he featured for Hemel Hempstead Town F.C., where he made a big impression in the front line. Despite limited starts, Akanbi demonstrated his impact from the bench and in rotation, netting important goals including a standout strike away at Dorking Wanderers F.C. while also showing his threat against The Tulips for Bishop’s Stortford.
Strong, athletic and direct, Akanbi is capable of playing across the front line. He has pace, physicality and a sharp eye for goal, he adds energy and attacking intent to the Tulips’ forward options.
Everyone at Spalding United welcomes Saleem to the club and looks forward to seeing him in action in yellow and blue.
